Pushkar Lake & the Ghats

Pushkar Ghats panorama

Pushkar is a small town near Ajmer in Rajasthan, situated around the charming Pushkar Lake, sacred to the Hindus. Other than the famous Brahma temple, there are more than 500 other temples in Pushkar. A dip in the holy lake is considered auspicious.

The ghats (steps) are used to do religious rituals & ceremonies and for bathing. The string of temples along the ghats mostly painted in bluish-white look gorgeous reflecting in the calm waters of Pushkar Lake. Its peaceful and relaxing to sit by the steps along the lake, or at one of the terrace cafes with a lake view and watch the world go by. A gallery of images around Pushkar Lake.

I enjoyed the colorful Pushkar Mela & the Camel fair, the flavourful vegetarian food and delicious sweets, but If I were to pick a favourite place in Pushkar, it would be by the tranquil ghats of the lake.

The lake looks quite small. But, I have no doubt, all bodies of water are holy in India. I’m definitely a water person. Did you see any events on the ghats whilst you were there?

    1. Events…I saw the evening puja & aarti, the prayers which are done every morning & evening. Other than that there are musicians sitting by the ghats and playing various instruments and a flock of birds passes every now and then 🙂 It’s relaxing to sit by the ghats and just watch life pass by 🙂
