It’s heart wrenching to see the destruction and loss of life caused by the flash floods at Uttrakhand and Himachal recently. It’s sad to see the town of Kedarnath now, which is one of the most affected. Here’s a link to find missing people from Google people finder.
Kedarnath in the Himalayas in Uttrakhand, at an altitude of 3500m above sea level is a small town on the shores of river Mandakini. Famous for the Kedarnath temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, it is the most important & remote pilgrimage site for Hindus. There are only 2 ways to reach the temple town; one is a 14 km trek from the nearest road at Gaurikund and the other way is by helicopter.
Kedarnath is special to me as it was my first trip to the Himalayas almost a decade back. I trekked to Kedarnath and went up to Chorabari Tal, a lake 4 km beyond Kedarnath towards Chorabari glacier. Saw our galaxy the Milky Way for the first time filled with starts as bright as diamonds, literally! It’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve seen and it’s tragic to see the devastation now. A few pictures from my trip to Kedarnath taken on film.
