Coorg is a beautiful hilly town in Karnataka, known for coffee plantations, beautiful views of the hills, and awesome Coorgi food – Pandi curry or pork curry with Kadambuttu or rice balls. Other than coffee and spices, honey from Coorg is one of the best. It’s a peaceful weekend destination a few hours away from Bangalore and Mysore, with beautiful views of the western ghats, coffee, spicy food, nature and chirping birds; a paradise! 🙂
Coffee, one of the most widely consumed beverages, comes from the coffee bean, seed of a coffee plant. My first visit to a coffee plantation was in the hills of Coorg (Kodagu), and I learnt that the fruit of coffee, commonly called a ‘bean’ is actually a ‘berry’! The coffee berries ripen to a beautiful crimson before they are ready for picking. The berries are hand-picked and undergo several processes before we get the roasted coffee beans, to use for brewing. Coffee berries at a plantation in Coorg, Karnataka, India.
Here’s a great info-graphic about Coffee from The Oatmeal and some more images of roasted coffee beans and coffee. More about Coorg.
